Robert I. Pigsley

Robert I. Pigsley, 80, of Council Bluffs died Jan. 2 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital.

He was born March 21, 1922, in Atlantic to Harry B. and Edna L. (Anderson) Pigsley. He graduated from Atlantic High School in 1942. He moved to Council Bluffs in 1967. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was Supervisor of Landscape & Parking at Mutual of Omaha for 12 1/2 years, retiring in 1987. Before that he worked at Lewis Central High School for 10 years. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 2. He played Santa Claus in the community since 1967.

Mr. Pigsley and his wife, Eleanor (Shields), were married 47 years.

Survivors in addition to his wife include three daughters, Brenda Pigsley of Ozark, Mo., Beth Lea Dirks and husband, Tom, of Millard, Neb., and Becky R. Roark and husband, Larry, of Council Bluffs; four sons, Bobby R. of Des Moines, Brad W. of Phoenix, Brett W. of Houston and Blaine R. of Minden; one sister, Loretta Troutman, of Los Banos, Calif.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson.

Visitation with the family will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Ed Clevenger of Fifth Avenue Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Rainbow Post No. 2. A luncheon will follow at the American Legion Club.

Memorials may be offered to Lewis Central High School Athletics and Booster Club.
