In Memory: Mildred Powell Baldwin

Mildred Powell-Baldwin, 83, of Neola died May 28 at Indian Hills Nursing Home.

She was born November 6, 1917, in Neola to George and Winnie Olsen and graduated from Neola High School in 1935. She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Neola, served on the church session for three years and was named Layman of the Year in 1988. She was a chaplain of Agatha Chapter No. 193, Order of the Eastern Star, in Neola for 10 years. She was a volunteer at Jennie Edmundson Hospital and served as rural director for 10 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Neola.

Mrs. Baldwin was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon DeVary, in 1971 and her second husband, Merritt Powell, in 1982.

Survivors include her husband, Edgar A. Baldwin; a sister, Verna Thompson, of San Antonio; and nephews.

An Eastern Star service was held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Neola, followed by visitation with the family until 8:30 p.m. Funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Dean Sparr officiating. Burial will be in the Neola Township Cemetery. Cutler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be offered to the church.
