In Memory: Jean A. Kuster

Jean A. Kuster, 103, died at her home in Persia on April 10, 2001.

She was born on May 7, 1897 in Cass Township, Harrison County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Harry and Jessie White Gibson.

Jean graduated from Normal Training School and taught country school for several years.

Jean married Walter F. Kuster on January 21, 1921 in Logan. They were the parents of four children.

Jean was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Persia and the Banner Club. She loved to crochet and made many afghans for family and friends.

Walter died on March 23, 1976. Jean was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Dean Nelson and Robert Kuster, both of Persia, and a great grandson, Jeremy Thygesen.

Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Nelson and her husband Jim of Persia, and Mary Jean Barney and her friend Larry Charleson of Logan; two sons, Kenneth Kuster and his wife Ruth of Harlan, and Bob Kuster and his wife Lillian of Portsmouth; a sister, Kathryn Newland of Woodbine; a brother, Donald Gibson of Apache Junction, Arizona; a special friend, Arlene Zacharias of Persia; 13 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral ceremonies will be held Thursday, April 12 at 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Persia with Pastor Dale Jenson officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery at Persia.

Knutson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
