Dennis D. Carlson

Dennis D. Carlson, age 67, of Council Bluffs passed away February 27, 2008, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

Dennis was born September 12, 1940, in Council Bluffs, to George Carlson and Gayle G. Gatrost. He graduated from Neola, Iowa High School in 1958, and served our country in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam Conflict. Dennis married Diane Rohrberg on November 30, 1963, in Council Bluffs and to this union four children were born. He was a Teamster truck driver for 30 years retiring in 1987. Dennis was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, where he was an usher; Teamsters Union Local #559; Knights of Columbus Council #11296 where he was a third degree Knight.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Carlson and step mother, Elaine Carlson.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 44 years, Diane Carlson of Council Bluffs; daughter, Cheryl J. Casson and husband Chris of Oakland, Iowa; sons, David A. Carlson and wife, Sandy, Jeffrey L. Carlson and wife, Debbie, Steven P. Carlson, all of Council Bluffs; 8 grandchildren; sister, Janice Rodesh of Newell, Iowa; stepbrother, Roscoe W. Kephart, Jr. and wife, Shirley of Des Moines, Iowa.

Wake service, Friday, 5:00 p.m. followed by a visitation until 7:00 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Rev. David Fleming, pastor officiating. Interment Garner Township Cemetery with military rites tendered by American Legion Post #2. A lunch will follow at the Church. Memorials to St. Patrick Church Building Fund or American Cancer Society.
