Harlan L. Dawson

Funeral for Harlan L. Dawson, 63, of Council Bluffs will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Heafey-Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak- Cutler Vinton Street Chapel in Omaha with the Rev. Roger Prescott and intern Nate Koenig officiating.

Mr. Dawson died Dec. 31 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital.

He was born Jan. 19, 1939, in Pisgah to Bruce and Janette (Purcell) Dawson. He graduated from Iowa Western Community College with a degree in tool and dye. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a truck driver for Teamsters Union No. 554, retiring in 1973. He was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, Teamsters Local No. 554, Golden Age Pinochle Club and Citizens for Community Improvement.

Mr. Dawson and his wife, Luckey (Mendenhall), were married 46 years. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Theresa Kim Dawson, in 1999.

Survivors in addition to his wife include one son, Shane Dawson, and wife, Sheila, of Council Bluffs; granddaughters, Jayne Dawson of Omaha, Melissa Dawson of Council Bluffs; grandson, Steve Scheid, and wife, Pearl, of Council Bluffs; mother, Janette Dawson, of Council Bluffs; sister, Beverly Baker, and husband, Robert, of Omaha; three great-grandchildren: Sierra, Christopher and Lucas Scheid.

Visitation with the family will be tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Garner Township in rural Council Bluffs.
