Arlene McKern

The funeral for Arlene McKern, 84, of Council Bluffs will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Crane of Risen Son Christian Village officiating.

Mrs. McKern died Dec. 24 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital.

She was born Aug. 30, 1918, to Charles M. and Margaret E. (Brown) Birchard in Hardin Township. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1936 and was office secretary for Council Bluffs Community Schools for 17 years. She was a member of Glendale Presbyterian Church, the Women's Bible Study Group at Risen Son Christian Village and the Moose Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett "Sandy," in 1987.

Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis A. White and husband, Roger, of Council Bluffs; three sons, Melvin C. and wife, Kim, of Sioux City, Gene and wife, Kay, of Council Bluffs and Michael S. and wife, Claudia, of St. Paul, Minn.; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandaughter.

Visitation with the family will be 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral Home. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Cemetery.

Memorials may be offered to Risen Son Christian Village's van service program.
