Council Bluffs, Iowa, January 24, 1964. ART SARRATT DIES: PUBLIC WORKS HEAD. City Public Works Director, Art SARRATT, 53, 3410 Fifth Avenue, died Friday at a local hospital. He had been a long-time employee of the city. Survivors include his widow, Ada, four brothers, Harold, C. J. (Jack), George (Mick), and Mannie, all of Council Bluffs, and one sister, Mrs. S. W. BOYCE of San Clemente, Calif. Services are pending at Meyer Funeral Home.

Tribute to Art Sarratt, published in the Nonpareil, by Leon E. MORSE, his friend: Sirs: In Art Sarratt, Council Bluffs lost one of its finest city employes. Working with Art for four years, I had an opportunity to see him in action and know of his complete dedication to his job and the people of our city. Always a gentleman under the trying duties of his position as Director of Public Works, he was willing any time of the day or night to answer questions or complaints that concerned his department. On many occasions, he was roused from his sleep to answer real or imaginary complaints, which he cheerfully accepted as his duty and responsibility. During the past year, when his health was not the best, he would undertake assignments such as all night snow removal, emergency street and sewer repair, and other problems confronting the Public Works Department. Perhaps this trait of willingness to do everything possible to please a not always considerate citizenry may have contributed to his untimely passing. For the future then, all of us might well consider that a man is only human and when he has done his best, he can do no more. Leon E. Morse.
