John V. McDonald ~ Westroads [Mall] Shooting Victim

John V. McDonald, age 65, of Council Bluffs, passed away December 5, 2007.

John was born in Omaha, Neb., on April 18, 1942, to Joseph and Pauline Tully McDonald. John graduated from Creighton Prep High School and Creighton University, receiving his Bachelor of Arts and his MBA. John also served in the U.S. Air Force and attended St. John's Church, in Omaha. John and wife Kathleen have been married for 40 years and his activities included his love of bicycling, in which he participated in many RAGBRAIS, walking, running, nature, woodworking, music, electronics, astronomy, and most of all his love of family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Pauline McDonald.

Survivors include wife, Kathleen; daughter, Suzanne Shehan and her husband Joe, of Omaha; son, Greg and his wife Indira, of Madison, Wis.; granddaughters, Madelene, Grace, Isabele, Maya, Ana, Pari, Cymran; sister , Jeanne Coverdale and her husband Michael, of Nevada, Iowa; brothers, P.J. and his wife Claudette, of Des Moines, Iowa, Tom and his wife Lois, of Independence, Mo.; aunts, Ilene Chico and Patricia Gaydos; uncle, Mike McDonald, all of Council Bluffs; several cousins and many many friends.

Christian Wake Service, Sunday, 4 p.m., with visitation to follow until 6 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, at 10 a.m., at St. John's Church, on the campus of Creighton University. Father Dan McDonald S.J., cousin of John, celebrant. Interment, St. Joseph Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Family has suggested memorials to Council Bluffs Habitat For Humanity, 645 9th Ave., or individual contributions to Elect Barack Obama, family will provide link to website, or St. John's Church, at Creighton University.
