Jacqueline C. Stokes, age 73, of Council Bluffs, passed away November 28, 2007, at Midlands Living Center.

Jacqueline was born May 8, 1934, in Council Bluffs, to the late George and Dorothy (Pike) Collins. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School, in 1951, and was employed by the telephone company. Jacqueline married Charles A. Stokes on March 5, 1955, and to this union one son, Charles A. Stokes, Jr., was born, in 1958.

Unfortunately Charles Stokes, Sr. was killed in a construction accident in 1962, and Jacqueline went to work as a realtor, later selling insurance, before attending IWCC to earn her nursing degree. Jacqueline had a nursing career that spanned thirty years, seven at Bishop Clarkson Hospital, in Omaha, Neb., and twenty-three at Jennie Edmundson Hospital, before her retirement in 2002. She was a member of Midwest Family Worship Center, Altrusa Club, 50 year member of Beta Sigma Phi and ABWA. Jacqueline was a volunteer reader for Lewis Central Schools and a volunteer nurse for Jennie Edmundson Hospital, after her retirement.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jacqueline was preceded in death by her niece, Kara Bess Riepe.

Jacqueline is survived by her son, Charles A. Stokes, Jr., of Crescent, Iowa, and his fiancee Jean Brown, of Omaha; sister, Janice L. Riepe and husband John, of Creston, Iowa; brothers, Tom P. Collins and wife Linda, of Omaha, George W. Collins and wife Sharon, of Council Bluffs; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family, Friday, 6-8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral service, Saturday, 11 a.m., at the mortuary, with Bishop Gordon Barnes officiating. Interment, Crescent, Iowa Cemetery, with a lunch following at Midwest Family Worship Center, 2540 6th Ave.

Memorials to Hospice with Heart preferred.
