Thelma A. "Sammy" Grego, age 83, of Council Bluffs, passed away November 4, 2007, at Midlands Rehabilitation Center.

Sammy was born December 31, 1923, in Silver City, Iowa, to the late Harry and Alta May (Snodgrass) Stevens. She married Ross Grego on March 15, 1945 in Missouri. Sammy was a waitress for many years working at Burlington Lunch, Golden Horse, Sam's Place, Pizza King, US Steak Buffett, Hardee's and Main St. Cafe.

She was preceded in death by her son, Phillip Grego, in 1966 during the Vietnam War; 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Sammy was very instrumental helping her husband erect the Vietnam Memorial in Bayliss Park.

Sammy is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ross Grego; son, Larry and wife, Rose, all of Council Bluffs; step-daughters, Karen McMorris and husband, Don, of Tularosa, New Mexico, Glenda Sue Grego-Jeans, of Omaha; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren.

Visitation with the Family, Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral Service, Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary with Paula Wallace, chaplain of Asera Care Hospice officiating. Interment Ridgewood Cemetery with a lunch following at the VFW.

The family will direct memorials.
