James "Ed" Coughlin, age 80, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2007, at Risen Son.

Ed was born in Melrose, Iowa, on November 7, 1926, to the late John and Julia Coughlin. Ed graduated from high school and worked for John Morrell Company in Ottumwa, Iowa. Ed and wife, Maxine moved their family to Council Bluffs in 1969. A member of St. Patricks Church, Ed owned and operated Coughlin Cleaning Services for many years in this area.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Maxine in March of 2006; grandson Matt Applegate; sisters, Mildred Sinnott and Winifred Lynch.

Survivors include his son, Dennis and wife, Jean; daughters, Dana Applegate and husband, Mark, all Council Bluffs, Jamie Bausback and husband, Jeff of Omaha, Cindy Putnam and husband, Bob of Lexington, Ky., Debbie Raffetto and husband, Joe of Salisbury, Maryland, Betsy Crompton and husband, Terry of Iowa City, Iowa; 22 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Raymond of Albia, Iowa.

Visitation, Thursday 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary Recitation at 7:00 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial, Friday 10:00 a.m., St. Patricks Church. Father David Fleming, celebrant. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at St. Patricks.

Memorials to the Church, St. Albert Schools or American Heart and Lung Association.
