Joanne Frances Helmts, age 67, of Avoca, Iowa, passed away October 26, 2007, at Myrtue Medical Center, in Harlan, Iowa.

She is survived by her husband, Norman Helmts; sons, Richard (Michelle) Griffen, of Carson, Iowa, Leon Griffen, Donald Griffen, both of Shelby, Iowa, Fred Griffen (Anne), of Avoca, Iowa, Rodney (Angie) Griffen, of Mounds View, Minn.; step-daughter, Christina (Richard) Berry; step-son, Kevin Helmts, all of Hazel Green, Ala.; brother, Norman (Delores) Benning, of Hampton, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; 2 great grand children.

Visitation with the family will be held Tuesday, 7-9 p.m., with a prayer service at 8:30 p.m., at Pauley Jones Funeral Home, in Avoca. Services, Thursday, 11 a.m., at United Church of Avoca. Private burial at Atlantic Cemetery, in Atlantic, Iowa.
