Dolores Marie Curry, age 74, died on October 28, 2007, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital, in Council Bluffs, after complications from leukemia.

Dolores Marie Neiens was born September 25, 1933, in rural Wiota, Iowa. She was the third daughter of John Peter Neiens and Mary Elizabeth Zierhut Neiens. Dolores attended 12 years at the Wiota Consolidated School, where she participated in basketball, softball, vocal music, band and two class plays. The basketball team went to the state tournament three years while she was in high school. She graduated May 16, 1951. After high school she worked as a secretary at the school and then in the credit department of Walnut Grove Products Inc., until her marriage.

She married Donald Lewis Curry, in Massena, Iowa, on December 27, 1954. She became a housewife and mother. She also did volunteer work for the church, several service organizations, and charities. She served as secretary-treasurer of the Massena Legion Auxiliary, and was that organization's poppy chairwoman for many years. She became Massena's city librarian and served in that position until retiring in 2002, because of her health.

Dolores and Don had six children: John Patrick, Anthony Joseph, Christopher Gerard, Mary Kathryne, Nicholas James, and Sarah Jane. Dolores enjoyed shopping and cooking, family gatherings, and spending time with her grandchildren. She read more than 30 prayer cards every day and recited the rosary. She was preceded in death by her son, Nicholas, who had open heart surgery on December 17, 1969; her father, John, on December 15, 1954, from a heart attack after her wedding rehearsal; her mother, Mary, on January 29, 1983, from cancer; and her brother, Joseph, on August 9, 1997.

She leaves behind her husband, Don, of more than 52 years; sons, Pat, of New York, Tony, of Omaha, Neb., and Chris, of Mission, Kan.; daughters, Mary K. (Bill) Morrow, of Council Bluffs, and Sarah (Davy) Summers, of Marietta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Megan Morrow, Jack Morrow, and Isaac Summers. Other survivors include a special family friend, Don Carrel, and three sisters, Helen Stakey, of Massena, Florence Christofferson, of Atlantic, Iowa, and Ramona Weber, of Shenandoah, Iowa, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Friends may call, at the church, on Tuesday, from 2-8 p.m., with the family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m., and a Scripture Service at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, October 31, 2007, at 10:30 a.m., at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, in Massena, with burial in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Massena Legion Auxiliary, or the American Cancer Society. The Steen Funeral Home, in Massena, is in charge of the professional arrangements, (712) 779-2272.
