Herbert F. Peters, age 92, passed away Saturday at Risen Son.

He was born in Keg Creek Township in 1915. In 1923 his folks, the late Henry and Lydia Peters, bought and moved to a farm in Lewis Township on the Pioneer Trail. He attended school in Lewis Township and took a business course at Boyles Business College in Council Bluffs. He completed a six week course in aviation sheet metal at Frye Aircraft school in Omaha and worked for Boeing Aircraft Co. in Wichita, Kan. for three years.

Herb served in the US Army Air Corp as a sheet metal mechanic during WWII, serving in India and China. He started farming the home place on Pioneer Trail in 1948, and purchased the farm from his folks in 1950. He was appointed clerk of Lewis Township in 1957 and served for 30 years. He still helped manage the Lewis Twp. Cemetery until 2001. He was a farm bureau member since 1948 and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs.

Herb is preceded in death by sisters, Helen Peters and Lenora Ellinghausen.

Survivors include sons, Richard and wife Teresa of Council Bluffs, David of Cobb, Calif., grandchildren, Melissa and Daniel Peters of Council Bluffs, sister, Lorene Keever, brothers, Ervin and wife Barb all Council Bluffs, Howard and wife Deloria of Homosassa Springs, Fla.

Visitation Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring. Funeral services Wednesday 10:30 a.m. at funeral home. Rev. Gus George officiant. Interment with military rites by American Legion Post 2 at St. Paul's Evangelical Country Church Cemetery. Memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 239 Frank Street, and the Country Church.
