Dorothy Mae Smith, age 76, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away October 2, 2007, at Mercy Hospital.

Dorothy was born October 16, 1930, in Fairbank, Iowa, to the late Walter A. and Laura (Wickersheimer) Wood. She moved to Waterloo, Iowa, at age 16, and graduated from Waterloo East High School, in 1949. Dorothy moved to Council Bluffs in 1964. She worked for various laundry and dry cleaning businesses, did sewing, and was a homemaker. Dorothy was a member of Broadway Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin Smith, in 1994; stepmother, Viola Lamprecht; and brother, Elmer Wood.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Joyce Nurton and significant other Rick Reed; granddaughter, Shantel Blecher and husband Dan; great granddaughter, Mallory Blecher, all of Omaha, Neb.; stepbrothers, Leon and Robert Lamprecht, both of Waterloo, and Donald Lamprecht, of Riverside, Calif.

Visitation with the family, Sunday, 5-7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Rev. Jann Osborn will officiate. Graveside service and burial, Monday, 2 p.m., at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials to the Diabetes Foundation, preferred.
