Robert M. Mebane (1927-2007)

Robert M. Mebane, Colonel, USAF, (Ret.), age 80, died, at his home in Bluffton, S.C., September 30, 2007.

His wife is the former Rosalie (Rose) Green, of Council Bluffs, an Abraham Lincoln High School graduate, of 1951. They were married at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Council Bluffs, on June 29, 1957, and celebrated their 50th Anniversary, in June of this year, in South Carolina. During the course of his military career they were stationed at Offutt AFB, Montgomery, Ala., San Antonio, Texas, Hawaii, Albuquerque, N.M., and the Pentagon. He also served in Germany and Vietnam, and was also a veteran of service in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of Oak Ridge Military Institute, and the University of North Carolina, and obtained his Masters Degree in International Relations from George Washington University. They were long-time residents of Alexandria, Va., and moved to their home at Sun City Hilton Head, in 2004.

Survivors, beside his wife, include 3 children, Robert C. Mebane (wife Barbara), of Deale, Md., Craig Mebane, of Woodbridge, Va., and Rebecca Mebane, Alexandria, Va.

Funeral services will be held at Island Lutheran Church, Hilton Head Island, on Friday, October 5th, at 1 p.m. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Arlington National Cemetery, on December 11th, at 1 p.m. Sauls Funeral Home, of Bluffton, S.C., is assisting the family with their arrangements.
