Herchel Keith Wilber of Avoca, IA passed away Wednesday, 2 May 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA. He had attained the age of 60 years, three months and 17 days.

Funeral services were held Saturday, 5 May at 1:30pm at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca with Rev. Gail Muckey officiating. Interment was held in the Graceland Cemetery in Avoca.

Serving as Honorary casket bearers were James YOUNG, Mike PETERSEN, Randy LUND, Lonnie CLARK, Barney THOMPSEN, David TEAL, Gola WILBER and Kurt REASON. Casket Bearers were Gary YOUNG, Steve SMITH, Robert WILBER, Jeremy WILBER, Shawn HAVICK, Allan PETERSEN, Leigh ADELMANN and Shawn WILBER.

Herchel Keith WILBER, the son of Dale and Aletha (HAINES) WILBER, was born on 12 Feb. 1947 in Council Bluffs, IA.

He attended elementary school in Carson and High School in Avoca graduating with the class of 1965. After graduation Herchel went to work as a barber in Ute, IA for four years.

In 1969, Herchel became employed with the Dept. of Transportation (DOT).

Herchel was united in marriage to Ssany Ye "Amy" PETERSEN on 13 Nov 1980 in Avoca, IA.

After his marriage to Amy, Herchel spent much time helping Amy with selling carpet and even installing carpet. Herchel retired on 30 Mar 2007 after 36 years with the DOT. . . .

He was a current member of the Peace United Church of Christ in Walnut, IA.

Herchel is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Beverly WILBER.

He is survived by his wife, Ssany Ye "AMY" of Avoca; his children, Michelle and her husband Steve SMITH of Kansas City, MO; Lisa HART of Omaha, NE; Marcy and her husband Leigh ADELMAN of Phoenix, AZ; and Patrick PETERSEN of Avoca; 11 grandchildren with one on the way; his brother Marshel WILBER and his wife Yvonne of Council Bluffs; nieces, nephews, other relatives and his ever-loving companion, his dog Bouncer.
