Bob Toncar passed from this life on October 7, 2011 after a two year battle with lung and bone cancer.
Visitation will be held at All Saints Catholic Church, Des Moines, Iowa on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. Mass of Celebration on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the church, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.
Bob was born June 9, 1932 in Des Moines, Iowa to Anton and Elizabeth Toncar. After graduating from Des Moines Technical High School in 1950 he proudly served as a member of the military police in the United States Air Force for four years, stationed in the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Newfoundland.
Bob retired after almost 35 year with Meredith Corporation where he worked as an electrotype corrector and was a proud union member.
Bob will be greatly missed by his wife of 29 years, Irene Moon-Toncar of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; children, Barb (Glen) Juhl of Garner, Iowa, Cathie (Ted) Quimby of Forest City, Missouri, Robert (Rhonda) Toncar Jr. of Des Moines, and Jim (Terri) Toncar of Dallas Center, Iowa; step children, Diane (Wilbur) Wilson, John Moon (Pam Ogg) all of Des Moines, Jim Moon of Altoona, Iowa, and Jeff (Tina) Moon of Bondurant, Iowa; twenty three grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; his loving sister, Betty Lou Catrenich of Urbandale, Iowa; and five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother in law Leo Catrenich.
Bob enjoyed woodworking, crossword puzzles, and classic western, military, and science fiction TV and movies. He will be remembered for the love he had for his family and his sense of humor.
