Duane G. Jacobson, DVM, passed away peacefully at the Deerfield Retirement Community on Tuesday, January 11, 2011. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 15, 2011, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 517 SW Des Moines Street, Ankeny.
Duane was born July 18, 1930, in Rake, Iowa. He graduated from Rake High School in 1947, served in the US Air Force, and graduated from Iowa State Veterinary College in 1959. He began his 25-year veterinary practice in Thompson, Iowa in 1959. In 1984, Duane became a federal meat inspector in Des Moines until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association.
On June 4, 1960, Duane married Marcia Eggland in Roland, Iowa. He will be remembered by his loving wife, their three children: Todd (Lisa) of Iowa City, Iowa, Paul (Lisa) of Le Mars, Iowa, and Pam (Tim) of Durham, North Carolina, grandchildren Grant, Ben, Paige, Jill, and Jake, 2 sisters, 1 brother, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, January 14, 2011, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. A private family burial will be held at Roland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or to the Deerfield Foundation at 13731 Hickman Road, Urbandale, IA 50323.
