Ann Cownie, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend died at her home in Des Moines on New Year's Eve after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at Central Presbyterian Church on Thursday, January 5th at 11 a.m., with a lunch reception following at the church. Visitation will be held Wednesday January 4 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Iles Funeral Homes - Dunn's Chapel.
Daughter of Charles and Ivadelle Cownie of Des Moines, Ann was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, and Iowa State University. After college, she bicycled through Europe, drove across the US, and worked as a teacher in California. She married Charles Kingsley in 1955, with whom she had two sons and a daughter. Following Charles's death, Ann married James Kenworthy in 1964, with whom she had one son. Ann made remarkable contributions to her church and civic communities, serving leadership roles on numerous boards and foundations in Iowa, Arizona, and Lake Vermilion, Minnesota. She exuded boundless energy, infectious enthusiasm, and a zest for life, adventure, church, and community involvement that continue to inspire an enormous network of family and friends.
She is survived by brothers, Bill and Frank Cownie; children, Charles and David Kingsley, Julie Will, and John Kenworthy; and grandchildren Davis and John Kingsley, Kate Will, and Connor, Chloe and Sophia Kenworthy.
