Kathleen A. Englund, 71 years young, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on February 19, 2012.
Kathi was born June 9, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois to James and Alice Cleary. She married Ralph Englund on July 25, 1959 in Chicago, and in 1975 moved with their four children to the Des Moines area.
Kathi enjoyed working in the newsroom at the Des Moines Register for 32 years before her retirement in 2007.
She took great pride in watching her grandchildren in school athletic events and activities, loved reading books, and was an avid Chicago Bears fan.
Those thankful for having shared in her life are her surviving son, Jim Englund (Alyssa); her daughters, Susan Wright and Jeanne Bennett (Rick) all of Urbandale; and son, Jon Englund (Elizabeth) of Fayettville, North Carolina; her brother, Stephen Cleary (Barbara) of Alsip, Illinois; and her grandchildren: Stephen, Kailyn, Michael and Sarah Englund, Alicia Wright, Katie and Megan Bennett.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; her sister, Eileen; brother, Jim; and her beloved grandson, Daniel Wright.
Visitation will be 4:30 to 7 p.m., Friday, February 24 at Merle Hay Funeral Home. A private burial will be held at a later date in Chicago, Illinois.
