John Michael Moore, age 53 of Salida, passed away on Wednesday February 22, 2012 at his home in Salida, CO after a long and courageous battle with cancer.    Mr. Moore was born October 14, 1958 in Denver, CO to William E. Moore Sr. and Janet Haney.
He and his family moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where he grew up and graduated from Southeast Polk High School.  He moved to Salida in 1988 and worked as a concrete finisher until 1993.  He then joined the staff at the Chaffee County Assessor’s Office as a Deputy Assessor.  In 1998, he started his own appraisal business, KA Appraisals, Inc.
Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his stepmother Cathlene Moore, brother William E. Moore Jr., stepbrothers Joe and Marvin Dalton, grandparents Hattie and John Moore and Viola and Roland Parsons and nephew Timothy Hartnett.  He is survived by his wife Sheila (Passarelli) Moore of Salida, CO.  Children Kelsey N. Moore and Austin J. Moore both of Salida, CO.  Father William E. Moore Sr. of Sedalia, CO, mother and stepfather Janet M. (Haney) and Donald D. Hartnett of Prairie City, IA, siblings Deborah (Don) Teeguarden of Addy, WA, Catherine (Jon) Ackelson of Altoona, IA, Thomas (Mari) Moore of Springfield, VA, Julie (Scott) Foster and Timothy Hartnett all of Pleasant Hill, IA.  Stepbrothers Mike Dalton of Edgewater, CO, Timothy Dalton of Euless, TX, stepsister Maureen Wright of Castle Rock, CO and several nieces and nephews. 
A celebration of life will be held at the Salida Elks Lodge, of which he is a member, on Sunday February 26, 2012 from 2-5 PM with a memorial service starting at 2 PM.  Friends who desire may make memorial contributions to the family through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.  On line condolences maybe made to the family at lewisandglenn.com.  Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
