Michael Willer, 62, left this life peacefully after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer on Friday, March 9, 2012.
Michael was born March 3, 1950 to Jack and Eleanor Willer in Chicago, Illinois. The family moved to Des Moines in 1955. Michael attended St. Theresa Grade School, and graduated from Dowling Catholic High School in 1969. Michael served in the United States Air Force for 20 years and was stationed around the world including Germany and Thailand, ending his career in Clovis, New Mexico. He loved reading and bible study and was an avid dancer and golfer.
Michael is survived by his mother, Eleanor and six siblings, Jim (Ann) Willer, John Willer and Joan Willer of Des Moines, Iowa, Patricia (Dave) Maahs of Polk City, Iowa, Thomas (Mary) Willer of Otley, Iowa, and Robert (Renee) Willer of St Louis, Missouri, as well as nieces and nephews, Patrick (Ashley) Willer, Kate Willer, Sarah Maahs, and Adam Maahs. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Willer.
There will be a private funeral mass at St Augustin's Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 13, followed by a military internment at Glendale Cemetery. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the care Michael received by the entire staff of the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Their care and compassion were extraordinary. Memorial contributions may be made to St Augustin's Church.
