B. Ellis Roth, 78, died Friday, March 16, 2012. He was born November 15, 1933 in Tofield, Alberta, Canada to Melvin and Hilda Hershberger Roth. At the age of two he moved with his family to Wellman, Iowa. He married Marilyn Leichty in Wayland, Iowa, in 1955. In 1963 they moved to Des Moines to help out a in a small church there.
He was active as a member of the Des Moines Mennonite Church the rest of his life. Ellis worked at the Des Moines Register for 35 years. He collected books and enjoyed working outdoors and traveling. He loved his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his three children, Bryan Roth, Kevin (Susan) Roth, and Carol (Keo) Lovan; his five grandchildren, Blake (Aubrey) Roth, Alex Roth (Becky Watson), Ben (Mallery) Lovan, Katie Lovan and Troy Roth; his five great-grandchildren, Paige Overton, Diana Duncan-Roth, David Duncan-Roth, Ellis Roth, and Landon Lovan; and his siblings, Willis Roth, Betty Krabill, Delbert Roth, and Curtis Roth.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, March 19, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Des Moines Mennonite Church, 4001 - 56th St. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be sent to the church.
