Ed Riegel, 89, passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at McLaren's Chapel followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Ed was born January 17, 1923 in Corning, Iowa to Carl and Ruth (Symonds) Riegel. He was a U.S. Navy veteran during WWII and a salesman for Koch Brothers. Ed was a Shriner and member of Cottage Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, was a Little League manager for 13 years, loved playing golf, an avid Cub and Hawkeye fan and the biggest part of his life was his family.
Ed is survived by his wife, Belva Riegel of Des Moines; three children, Linda (Leland) Reece of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Vicki Warren of Des Moines and Barry (Laura) Riegel of Urbandale; seven grandchildren, Rick (Shana) Warren and Chad (Christine) Warren, Matthew and Carrie Reece, Maddie, Rachel and Miranda Riegel and three great-grandchildren, Katie, Maya and Samuel Warren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Rick Warren and two sisters, Maxine and Iola.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice Kavanagh House on 56th Street.
