Sylvia L. Miksich passed away peacefully on August 1. Hers was truly a "wonderful life" - for 101 years.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 6, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at McLaren's Chapel with a Rosary service at 7 p.m.
Sylvia was born in Scandia, IA. She and her husband, Bill, co-founded Michael's Homes in West Des Moines and for more than 40 years they worked side by side developing residential and commercial real estate properties in central Iowa. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Catholic Women's League, West Des Moines Women's Club, Bishop Drumm Guild and the Mercy Hospital Guild.
She enjoyed and loved her family immensely, and her generosity to them and to others was exceptional. She appreciated traveling, flower gardening, cooking, decorating and many relaxing summers at her home in Okoboji.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill, and she will be greatly missed by her family: sons, John (Karen), Bill (Jeanne), and Greg (Sheila) of West Des Moines; her grandchildren, John, Jr. (Kim), Bill (Jensie), Mike (Lisa), Erin (Adam), and Natalie; great granddaughter, Lili; step-grandchildren, Chad (Angela) Willis and Andrea Whyte; step-great-grandson, Chayce Willis; as well as her sister, Elizabeth Harms.
Her family is grateful to her many caregivers -- the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center, Wesley At Home Services, and the Parish Nursing Program at Sacred Heart Church. Each provided wonderful support.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Parish Nursing Program at Sacred Heart Church of West Des Moines or to the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center.
