Major, Lorraine Bruggen – 1918-2012

Lorraine Bruggen Major passed away on January 22, 2012 at Iowa Jewish Life Center in Des Moines, Iowa. The family will receive friends from 11 to 1 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2012 at McLaren's Chapel followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. Burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Lorraine was born on September 19, 1918 in Schleswig Iowa, the daughter of John and Edith (Lee) Bruggen. Lorraine graduated from Simpson College in 1940. In 1947 she married Alan Major also a Simpson College graduate.
Lorraine was an active member of First United Methodist Church for 65 years and a 70 year member of P.E.O. Chapter HF, Des Moines, Iowa. She was also a member of Wesley Acres Guild and Des Moines Women's Club. She held secretarial positions i.e. Osmundson Manufacturing, Perry, Iowa, Drake University, Beckett and Burford Law Firm, Huntington, West Virginia, the Savery Hotel in Des Moines, and Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC).
Lorraine enjoyed entertaining friends, collecting antique dolls, travel, and photography.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Alan on January 22, 2011. Alan and Lorraine celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2007.
Other survivors include two sons, Charles (Cindy) Major of East Moline, Illinois and James Major of West Des Moines, Iowa; two grandsons, Dr. Ryan (Dr. Rachel) Major of Crystal, Minnesota and Christopher Major of Iowa City, Iowa; three great-grandchildren, Jack, Henry and Madeline of Minnesota and sister, Phyllis Bruggen of Des Moines, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Des Moines, Iowa.
