Bernadette J. Lacona-Riley, 54, was unexpectedly called home to the Lord, after a sudden illness. She died Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Mercy Hospital, surrounded by her husband and family. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, August 27, 2012 at St. Ambrose Cathedral. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery.
Bernie attended Dowling High School and Drake University where she played on their baseball and golf teams. Bernie enjoyed painting and her pets. Her special joy was cooking and baking. Prior to Bernie's retirement from Noah's Ark Ristorante, she managed several departments. She had many mentors and learned to cook and bake to perfection. Riding her Harley was one of her relaxation activities. She graduated from Bob Bondurant High Performance Motor Racing School.
Survivors include her husband, Colin Riley of West Des Moines; parents, Noah and Sally Lacona of West Des Moines; siblings, Chris (Chuck) Acri of Plano, TX, Jim (Norabeth) Lacona of West Des Moines, Annie (Richard) Erickson of Kansas City, MO, Teresa Lacona of Richmond, CA; aunts, several nieces and nephews, cousins and godson, James Noah Lacona II.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m., Sunday, August 26, 2012 at Dunn's Funeral Home where a vigil/rosary service will begin at 5 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League.
