Mescal Gilbert, 86, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Westview Care Center in Indianola. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Epworth United Methodist Church in Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Mescal was born in Beaconsfield, Iowa and was a graduate of Iowa State Teacher's College. She married Dean C. Gilbert on June 6, 1948 and they moved to Des Moines in 1951. Mescal taught in the Des Moines area school system for 47 years. She was a lifelong member of Epworth United Methodist Church and a longtime member of the Avion Trailer Club. She had a great love for animals and teaching.
She is survived by her niece, Lois (John) Schultz of Indianola; two nephews, John (Diane) Reasoner of Beaconsfield and Robert (Glenda) Reasoner of Osceola; seven great and six great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Frank and her husband, Dean.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at McLaren's Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to Mescal's church.
