Betty Jean Hallbauer, 90, passed away Monday, September 29, 2014 at Kavanagh House on 56th Street surrounded by her family. A celebration of her life will be held 2 p.m. Friday at McLaren’s Chapel with entombment at Resthaven Mausoleum.
Betty was born January 6, 1924 in Greenfield, IA the daughter of Roy and Christena Crees. She joined two sisters and two brothers. She met the love of her life, Maurice W. Hallbauer, and four months later they were married on November 12, 1948. Together they welcomed five daughters, Patricia, Connie, Debra, Kimberly and Kelli.
Betty was a wonderful wife, mother and friend. She was known for her cooking and baking, especially her bread and pies. She also loved to sew and crochet. Once her children were older she worked for many years at the Meredith Corporation.
She is survived by her sister, Helen Huitt; three daughters, Pat (Roger) McBroom, Kim Millburn and Kelli (Randy) Homervold; son-in-law, George McDaniel; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Maurice; daughters, Connie Bennett and Deb McDaniel; sister, Irene; and brothers, Dale and Rex.
Visitation with the family will be from 1 p.m. until service time Friday at McLaren’s. Memorial contributions may be given to the Ronald McDonald House or the Animal Rescue League.
