Bernard L. Catron, 69, of Earlham died of a heart ailment Wednesday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Adel. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Catron was born in Stark, Kan., and moved to the Des Moines area in 1946. He lived in Ankeny before moving to Earlham a few years ago. He retired as a supervisor at Armstrong Tire and Rubber Co., was an Army veteran of World War II and had been a member of St. John’s and Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic churches, Knights of Columbus and American Legion. He also was a volunteer with Boy Scouts of America and Little League baseball.
Surviving are his wife, Eva jean; four sons, Jerald of Ankeny, Craig of Gaithersburg, Md., and Thomas and Curtis, both of Pleasantville; three daughters, Susan Wenthold of Gaithersburg, and Theresa Johnson and Betty Catron, both of Des Moines; two sisters, Cora Jane Wright of Adel and Loretta Fisher of Frontenac, Kan.; three brothers, Norbert of Apopka, Fla., and Claude and Leon, both of Iola, Kan.; and 13 grandchildren.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at Iles Grandview Park Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Catholic Church in Adel.
