Larry Gale Penn, 73, passed away September, 25, 2011 at Methodist Hospital from a cardiac arrest. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 29 at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel with burial at Oakdale Cemetery in Adel. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time.
Larry, the son of Ray and Cleo Wallace Penn, was born December 30, 1937 in Des Moines. He graduated from De Soto High School and served in the U.S. Army active duty from 1956 to 1959 and was stationed in Korea and then inactive duty until 1962. He was employed by Dallas County for 37 years, serving as a Technician and Assistant County Engineer until he retired. Larry was an avid baseball player, bowler, and golfer during his life. He belonged to Hillcrest Country Club for many years, winning several Club Championships.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother and sister.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Patricia (Weston) Penn; daughters, Kimberly (Ray) Loraine and Wendy (Jarrod) Wahman; four granddaughters, Abby (Ryan) Bennett, Kaitlin (Jonathon) Longworth, Rylee and Regan Wahman; one great grandson, Jack Bennett; three step children, Tim (Pat) Adkins, Tami (Jeff) Barnwell, and Toby (Jennifer) Adkins; seven step- grandchildren; and three step great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Hillcrest Country Club.
