Susan Wickemeyer, 69, of West Des Moines, passed away on Feb 5, 2022. She was born to Harold and Jean Bradham on Aug. 23, 1952 in San Angelo TX. The family moved to Austin and San Antonio before settling in Houston. Susan attended Immanuel Lutheran grade school and Waltrip High School. She enrolled in University of Houston where she studied for two years before transferring to Texas Women's University. Susan took pride in the fact that she worked her way through school and paid for her education herself. She received her Bachelor of Nursing degree and began her career in the Emergency Dept. of St. Joseph's Hospital in downtown Houston. Susan met her future husband, William, when she was a student nurse and he was an intern in the Emergency Dept. of The Methodist Hospital in Houston. They were married in June of 1980, and moved to Des Moines where William began his career as a Cardiologist. Susan then devoted her energy to raising her children and supporting William in his medical practice. Susan was an athlete and avid sports fan. In high school, she lettered in softball, volleyball, and basketball and took up tennis after moving to Des Moines. She played competitively on several USTA teams and captained one that won the State Championship. She was a great fan of the Hawkeyes and Cyclones as well as the Houston Cougars. Her other favorite pastimes included crossword puzzles, soduku puzzles, and shopping. Susan and William had a wonderful life together in Des Moines. She loved to travel with family and friends and had many travel adventures. Cruising was her favorite travel mode and included trips to the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Baltic, South America, Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Jean Bradham. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, William; their children, Julie and Joseph; and their five grandchildren, Cael and Cody Barton, and Ayden, Avlynn, and Hudson Wickemeyer. She is also survived by her brother Jim (Mary Carrol) Bradham and Michael (Laura) Bradham. A visitation will be Saturday, February 19 from 10:00 am to 11:00 with the memorial service following at 11:00 am at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel, 801 19th Street, West Des Moines, Iowa.
