LORETTA HUDNUTT OBITUARY
January 3, 1944 - November 5, 2011
Born in What Cheer, IA
Resided in Des Moines, IA

Loretta Hudnutt, 67, of Des Moines, passed away peacefully at Bright Kavanagh House on Saturday, November 5, 2011.

Loretta was born January 3, 1944 to Marcellus and Theola (Lair) Mateer in What Cheer, Iowa. She grew up around Oskaloosa with her two brothers and four sisters. It was there she met the love of her life, Layard Hudnutt. They married and moved to Des Moines, where they enjoyed 50 happy years together.

Education was important to Loretta, a lifelong learner, who graduated from college with distinction in her 50's. She owned LaRetta's Country Memories and worked at Bening Financial, where she loved her job and fellow employees.

Loretta spent her time in Des Moines and in Topock, Arizona, near her extended family. She loved attending her grandchildren's activities, creating fun and memorable Christmases, collecting various items, biking, working on the computer, painting, family campouts and the Iowa State Fair. She was known for "wait, just one more" picture.

Loretta truly believed "You can be as happy as you make up your mind to be. Sometimes having a great day depends on you making it a great day".

Loretta is survived by her husband, Layard; sons, Scott (Edine) of Madrid and Tony of Indianola; daughter, Terrinye (Tom) Goetz, of Ankeny; grandchildren, Madison, Sydney, Levi, Luke, T.J., Taylor, Toree, Tonya, Danielle, and Mitchell; great grandchildren, Lucas and Emerie; mother, Theola; and five siblings, Jerry, Larry, Rella, Marti and Sandi. She was preceded in death by her father and sister, Vicki.

Memorial services will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, November 10 at Iles Funeral Homes-Grandview Park Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Loretta's name to the Bright Kavanagh House.
