Robert W. Anderson, 90, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2011, at his home in Green Valley, Arizona.

"Bob" is survived by his wife Jane, son Ron Anderson (Jane) of West Des Moines, Iowa, daughter Nancy Appel (John) of West Des Moines, Iowa and grandchildren Scott Anderson of Denver, Colorado, and Molly Anderson of West Des Moines, Iowa.

Bob grew up in Des Moines and graduated from East High School. He attended Cornell College where he met his wife to be Jane. They dated for three years and were married for 67 years. He played collegiate basketball and tennis. Then shortly after World War II began Bob enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served as an officer in the Pacific Theater. Bob was particularly proud of his service as a Captain of the Honor Company that presided over the Japanese surrender in 1945. After the War he returned to Des Moines and obtained a Master's Degree from Drake University.

Bob began his life-long love of high school coaching in northern Minnesota and later in Clarion, Iowa. He returned to teach and coach in the Des Moines School System for many years. He enjoyed coaching football, basketball, wrestling and tennis at Roosevelt High School and always took great pride in the success of his players both on and off the field.

After retirement Bob and Jane enjoyed many happy years traveling throughout the country and living in Minnesota, Florida and Arizona.
