OBITUARY
Sylvia Irene (Luebke) Benson, 90, of Urbandale, IA entered her heavenly home on February 12, 2012. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2012, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. Friday.

Sylvia was born on September 10, 1921 in Elizabeth, MN to Rudolph and Clara (Krause) Luebke. She graduated from Washington High School in Fergus Falls, MN in 1939 and then attended cosmetology school. She worked in this occupation until 1948 when she married the love of her life, Rolland "Ron" C. Benson. They lived in St. Cloud, MN until moving to Des Moines' Beaverdale neighborhood in 1950. Sylvia was an active homemaker devoted to her husband and family. She was a long-time, supportive member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Des Moines. She enjoyed water color painting, golfing, fishing, bowling, reading, dancing, cooking and Cardinals baseball. Sylvia delighted in her grandchildren and enjoyed traveling with her family.

Sylvia and Ron moved to Urbandale in 1998. After Ron's death in 2008, Sylvia enjoyed home life with her immediate family there. She valued visits from her devoted pastors, friends, relatives and personal aides. Her fortitude and steadfast Christian faith helped her face disability late in life.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Ron; her parents and two brothers, Clarence and Norman Luebke. She is survived by her sister, Joyce Hayes; brother, Warren (Geneal) Luebke; three children, Valerie Benson (Bill) Carpenter, Denise (David) Miller and Kate Benson (Ross) Larson; four grandchildren, Monica Miller, Michael Miller, Elizabeth "Liz" Larson and Matthew (Erin) Larson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley Benson Halpern, Hazel Luebke, Robert and Iolaine Benson, Evelyn Benson Hansen; and several generations of nieces and nephews.
