Des Moines - Aurora Alanis Overton, 92, passed away at the Jewish Center on March 28, 2021. Services will be held at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with visitation on Wednesday, March 31 from 5 to 8 p.m. and the funeral service on Thursday, April 1 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery.

Aurora was born on February 9, 1929 in Villa Santiago, Nueva Leon, Mexico to Beatriz Alanis de Tamez and Elpidio Alanis Leal. She trained as a surgical nurse and moved to Des Moines to pursue a career with Mercy Hospital where she met and later married Roy Overton, II. The couple was blessed with a robust family and Aurora became a full-time homemaker. She was a life-long Catholic, a member of the Orchid Society and loved growing plants and flowers. Aurora was a devoted mother and dearly loved her family.

She is survived by her children, Dr. Roy (Mary Jo) Overton, III, Rex (Dwona) Overton, Dr. Patricia Overton-Keary, Theresa Petersen, and Linda (Jay) Filby; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Soco, Angelica and Nelia; and a host of other family members and friends.

Aurora was preceded in death by her parents; 4 infant children and her daughter, Dorothy Overton; and her siblings, Modesto, Elva, Gudelio, and Alicia.
