Barbara A. Pickering, 91, passed away at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny on Thursday, February 9, 2012. She was born January 24, 1921, in Des Moines, to Charles and Anna (Rouse) Blaylock.

She was a member of the Methodist Church in Grand Junction. She enjoyed crafting, playing cards, and spending time with her grandchildren. In her earlier years she was a homemaker before becoming the secretary of Saydel High School, and later served as manager of an apartment complex.

Barbara is survived by her son, Ken (Deb) Pickering of Mitchellville; daughter, Teresa (Warren) Stump of Altoona; grandchildren, Terry (Lorrie) Pickering of Elgin,TX, Diane Foster of Altoona, Philip (Carla) Pickering of Altoona, J.C. (Shannon) Pickering of Bondurant, and Janice (Craig) Matzke of Des Moines; ten great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and one great-great-step-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles (Anna) Blaylock, brothers, Carl and OV Blaylock; sisters, Audrey Watts, Charlotte Snook, and Florence Grove; husband, Russell Pickering; son, Charles Pickering; and grandson Charles Pickering, Jr.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, with burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The immediate family will greet family and friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Diabetes Association of Iowa in loving memory of Barbara.
