Verna A. Berry, 81, passed away, Saturday, March 7, 2008 of a heart attack. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 10 at Valley Evangelical Free Church in West Des Moines. Burial will follow at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes.

Verna was born January 18, 1928 in Des Moines, the daughter of Frank and Paloma (Crowell) Anderson. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School. Verna married Tim Berry on February 6, 1948. She had been an administrative assistant in the leasing office for the Towers Building at Merle Hay Mall. Verna enjoyed gardening, walking and reading. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and was very loved by them as well.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents: and her son, Michael Berry. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Tim Berry; sisters, Francine Fackler, Georgia Bach, Roberta Minard and Rosalie (Clayton) Fallis; sister-in-law, Marjorie Hansen; daughter-in-law, Janet (R. Kim) Dreher; grandchildren, Emily (PJ) Holmertz, Ashley (Chad) Tierney and Tyler Dreher and great grandchildren, Sarah and Aiden Holmertz, and Abigail Tierney.

Visitation, with the family present, will be from 5-7 p.m. today at Iles Funeral Homes - Westover Chapel. Memorial contributions in memory of Verna may be made to the Johnston Public Library. ~ The
