Robert John "Bob" Montgomery, 72, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away April 1, 2011 after an 8 year battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 3, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. and memorial service April 4, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA. Interment will be in Akron, Ohio.

Bob was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He grew up in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. After serving with the Marine Corps for several years, he brought his family to Ohio where he worked with the school districts. Bob moved his family to Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1979 where he worked for many years with the Council Bluffs School District. Bob spent his retirement years in Des Moines, IA, spoiling his happy and seven loving grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his loving children: Reid (Jenny), Mike (Sari), and Cathy (Terry), and his 7 beautiful grandchildren: Jack, Jacob, Evan, Samuel, Maggie, Ellie, and Lauren. He also is survived by sisters Margaret "Peg" (Dick) Stark and Linda (Duane) Spiker, and brother Phillip Montgomery, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Margaret "Marge" Campbell Montgomery of Silver Lake, Ohio.
