Marvin Ray Curry, son of Herbert W. and Edna Kathleen (Boles) Curry, was born May 5, 1949, in Graettinger, Iowa. He attended school at Graettinger before moving to Emmetsburg where he graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1967. Following high school, Marvin attended Emmetsburg Junior College for one year before entering the United States Navy. He was employed at Berkley's Corporation following high school.
Marvin served in San Diego as a Radioman from June 1969 until his father passed away and his mother needed him to return home to help with Kathleen's Residential Care which his family owned and operated. Due to this family emergency, Marvin was honorably discharged from the Navy in January 1970. He then continued his education and received a Bachelor's Degree. Marvin began working at Kathleen's Residential Care, which his family owned and operated.
On June 25, 1971, Marvin was united in marriage to Judith "Judy" Hilton, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa. To this union three children were born.
In 1976, Marvin and Judy moved to Pocahontas, where they opened the Pocahontas Residential Care facility. While they were establishing the business, Judy managed the business and Marvin also worked for Wells Blue Bunny and the Des Moines Register. Marvin also served as Administrator of the Kossuth County Care Facility in Algona. In 1982 Marvin's mother asked him to return to run Kathleen's Residential Care, which he operated until shortly before his passing. They sold the Pocahontas Residential Care in 1996.
Marvin was a member of the American Legion in Pocahontas and the Pocahontas Golf Club. He was a past member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg and St. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church in Pocahontas.
Marvin and Judy moved to West Des Moines in November, 2011, to be near their son and medical doctors, due to Marvin's health. Marvin enjoyed life and had a laugh that captivated those around him. He turned heads and had others around laughing with him. You could hear his laughter clear across the golf course where he spent much of his summer days and winter vacations with Judy and friends. He enjoyed visiting and sharing stories and jokes with family and friends as well as playing cards. Marvin loved dancing and was very light on his feet. He had a super personality for working with the handicapped individuals he served and making them feel important.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Curry; and infant twin daughter, Jodi Marie and infant twin son, Christopher James.
He is survived by his wife, Judy of West Des Moines, Iowa; his son, Jason Curry of West Des Moines, Iowa; his sister, Marlene Iverson of Emmetsburg, Iowa; brothers, Kenneth Curry of Emmetsburg, Iowa and Linn Curry of Algona, Iowa; nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
