Eunice Fraas, age 91, died of congestive heart failure February 5, 2012, after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 9, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Eunice was born on January 28, 1921 in Paton, Iowa, the daughter of Harry Victor Bartlett and Grace Fredress Franzeen. She was baptized at the Methodist Church in Scranton. After graduating from Scranton High School, Eunice took the civil service exam and worked four years for the War Department in Washington, D.C. While living in Washington Eunice attended George Washington University and also worked for an engineering company.

On January 24, 1948, in Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Corona, New York, she married Paul John Fraas. Eunice stayed home while the children were young, then worked at Doubleday Book Company. She moved to Des Moines in 1963 and worked as a legal secretary for the Davis Hockenberg Law Firm until retirement at age 65.

Eunice enjoyed researching her family history and was past Regent of Daughters of the American Revolution. Eunice was a member of Colonial Dames, Founders and Patriots, Ancient and Honorable, P.E.O. Chapter Q and other patriotic organizations.

Those left to cherish her memory include her brother, Donald (Beulah) Bartlett of Alamogordo, NM, three children, Paul John "J.P." (Rebecca) Fraas and Brian Fraas, both of Urbandale, and Valerie (Jim) Carlson of Windsor Heights; grandchildren, Shawn Fraas of Ankeny, Kimberly (Scott) Vickers and Tracy Farr, both of Baltimore, MD, Missy (Bart) Bader of Waukee, Jeffrey (Katherine) Fraas of Ryan, IA, April Carlson of Windsor Heights; step grandson, Jacob Zochert of Huntington, MD, great grandchildren, Hollyann and Trisha Jean Vickers of Baltimore, MD, Shayla Rank of Des Moines, Brandon Bader of Waukee and Crystal and Bobby Crouch of Baltimore, MD; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Barbara and brother, Roger.
