Tom Wisnousky, 70, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 16, 2011. Services will be held at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Family will greet friends on Thursday, May 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. and the funeral will be on Friday, May 20 at 2 p.m.

Tom was born on January 3, 1941 in Cedar Rapids, IA and graduated from Jefferson High School there. He obtained his BA at Coe College in Cedar Rapids and his MBA from Florida State.

On Thanksgiving Day in 1961, he married the love of his life, Carol. They would have been married 50 years in November. Tom served in the USAF from 1963-1975. He retired from the Housing and Urban Development in 2004. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed playing soccer, sail boat racing, biking, corvettes and his grandkids' activities. Tom belonged to the Tall Dog Bike Club and Corvette Club of Iowa and enjoyed the many friends he met through those activities.

Survivors include his wife and soul mate, Carol Wisnousky; son, Ted and wife Lisa; grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Kayla and Jake; brothers, Edwin, Joe (Donna) and Jerry (Jan). Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Leona Wisnousky, and son Daniel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be used for a memorial bench on one of Tom's favorite bike trails. ~ The Des Moines (IA) Register Wed 18 May 2011.
