Norm Conway, Jr., 68, died Wednesday, November 26, 2003 of a heart ailment in Plano, TX. Norm was along time resident of Des Moines. After graduating from Dowling High School and Loras College in Dubuque he joined his father, Norm Conway, Sr. at Conway Bros. First of Iowa Corp, a well-known and respected brokerage firm in Des Moines. In 1973 he bought and became president of the Newton Foundry Co. of Newton, IA. In 1990 he and his wife Phyllis moved to Kenner, LA where he owned and operated Cam-Line Co. before joining family in Texas in 1997.

While in Des Moines, Norm was one of the early pioneers of both professional and youth hockey in the city. He was president of the Des Moines Oak Leafs and served on several boards for youth hockey. He took great pride in the city and very much appreciated the many friends he had here.

Norm was a devoted family man. He and Phyllis raised four sons, Brian of Ankeny, Kevin (Jeanie) of Des Moines, Norman III (Laura) of Bradford, MA and Major Jerry Conway (Angela) of Alexandria, VA; and three daughters, Maureen of Plano, TX, Katie Covery of Plant, TX and Erin Prendergast (Jeff) of Dallas, TX. He is also survived by his mother, Charlotte; his sister, Lynne Illes of New Orleans, LA his brother, Meredith of West Des Moines 16 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

His many friends are encouraged to join the family at either or both a visitation to be held at McLarens Chapel on Thursday, December 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by the Rite of Christian Burial and a celebration of his life to be held at St. Augustin's Catholic Church in Des Moines on Friday, December 5 at 10 a.m.
