Death Takes Nell White

Last rietes will be in Des Moines Monday for Nell White, former Fairfield resident and prominent Iowa teacher for 50 years.

The services Monday will be at 11 a.m. at the Merle Hay Funerla Chapel with interment in the Merle Hay Mausoleum.

Miss White died Thursday of a heart ailment at Wesley Acres Retirement Home where she had lived for the past three years.

Born near Moberly, Mo., Miss White taught school at several Iowa Communities, most recently at Cincinnati, Red Oak and Ottumwa.

She taught three years at Parsons College after retiring from public school teaching at Ottumwa.

Miss White was graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College and completed her master's degree at the University of Missouri in Columbia. She was state president of Iowa Classroom Teachers from 1959 to 1961 and was on the National Teachers Education Professional Standards Commission for 17 years.

Miss White held a number of other important posts in the teaching profession and other organizaqtions. She organized the Fairfield Retired Teachers Association and served as its president.

Survivors include a sister, Anna B. White, Des Moines, and a brother, Aubrey White, Mount Dora, Fla.
