OBITUARY
Donald Eugene (Red) McCurdy (3 November 1936-10 July 2018)

Celebration of Life Service will be Thursday, 19 July 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Urbandale United Church of Christ, 3539 70th Street, Urbandale, Iowa 50322 with visitation one hour preceding the service (9:00 a.m.) Burial will follow the service at the Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa.

Donald was born 3 November 1936 to Chloe Elizabeth Gross and Wilbur Earl McCurdy in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Until he married Nancy Jane Stapp on 7 February 2004 he was a life-long resident of Oskaloosa, then moved to West Des Moines. Education for Donald consisted of Webster Elementary, Oskaloosa High School Class of 1955, and one and a half years of college at William Penn College. Many knew him from Harry Green’s (East End Beer Station) later known as South 7th Grocery where he worked from approximately 1952 until he retired in 2005.

During his life he had belonged to Math Club, Photoplay, and Cadet Teachers in High School. Other memberships he has or has been affiliated with are the Elks, Eagles, Sons of the American Legion, St. Paul Congregational United Church of Christ where he had been an over 50 year member, Urbandale United Church of Christ where he was as active as his health would permit in the in Bow Tie Boyz and the Adult Church Choir. He had no hobbies but he enjoyed attending plays at the Des Moines Playhouse. Always early enough to his activities to make sure he had time to visit with people. He knew no strangers and was a friend to all.

Survivors include his wife Nancy, his sister-Alta Beatrice Williams Harrison, Arkansas, sisters-in-law Sharon McCurdy-Russell, Iowa, Su McCurdy - Ankeny, Iowa, Judy Penland-Leawood, Kansas, eight nieces and nephews, many great and great-great nieces and nephews.. He was preceded by his parents, two brothers Robert Earl McCurdy and John William McCurdy, and two nephews.
