BILLY D. LARSON

EDDYVILLE - Billy D. Larson, 82, of West Des Moines, and formerly of Eddyville, died Dec. 31, 2012, at the Methodist West Hospital of West Des Moines.

Billy was born June 6, 1930, in Ottumwa to Edwin Everett and Wynona Opal (Nye) Larson. Billy's mother died during birth and his father died when Billy was six years. Billy was raised by his maternal grandparents, Clarence and Lula Nye. He attended Columbia Country School and later the Eddyville High School.

Bill was united in marriage on Nov. 26, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua to Henrietta Marlene Longcor. They were blessed with over 62 years of marriage and two children, Rick and Lori.

Bill worked for a few years after high school for Morrell's Packing Plant in Ottumwa before working at the DeWild Standard Service in Eddyville. In 1966, Bill began to work for Eddyville Lumber. He worked at the lumber yard until his retirement, and he also drove a school bus for Eddyville for 22 years.

Bill was also a charter member of the Eddyville Ruritan Club and a member of the Eddyville United Methodist Church.

Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Henrietta Larson of West Des Moines; their two children, Rick Larson and wife Melanie of Parker, Colo. and Lori Larson of West Des Moines; three grandchildren, Jennifer Miller and husband Gerry, Jodi Smith and husband Martin and Joel Fortney and wife China; and three great-grandchildren, Brittanny Miller, Aiden Rivera and Arden Fortney. Bill is also survived by five step-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Bill will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dan Visser officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery of Eddyville.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Bill's family present from 6-7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established to the Eddyville Ruritan Club or the Eddyville United Methodist Church.
