Anne Nides Loeb, 61, passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 after a valiant 11 month battle against pancreatic cancer. A native of Duluth, MN, she earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Minnesota. She subsequently obtained a masters degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia; Mrs. Loeb also completed Ph.D. coursework at Drake University and Iowa State University after moving to Des Moines from Fort Dodge, IA. In her younger years, Mrs. Loeb worked for Maurice's Department Stores, Buena Vista College, and the American Institute of Business (AIB). She was active in the Des Moines community as a member of PEO, Junior League, Temple B'Nai Jeshurun Sisterhood, and Des Moines Golf and Country Club. Mrs. Loeb was also President of Temple B'Nai Jeshurun, of which she was a longtime member. In addition, Mrs. Loeb served as President of the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center, spearheading a fundraising initiative to modernize inpatient facilities. Mrs. Loeb enjoyed traveling and reading as well as playing tennis, bridge, and mahjong.

Mrs. Loeb is survived by her husband of 36 years, Dr. Edward Loeb; and three sons, Matthew of New Orleans, LA as well as Alexander and Jeffrey, both of Austin, TX. She is also survived by six younger siblings, including Jane Nides of Minneapolis, MN, James Nides of Washington DC, Margaret Nides (Joe Carlson) of Washington DC, Melissa Nides (Jack Zordan) of Chicago, IL, John Nides (Linda) of Mendota Heights, MN, and Thomas Nides (Virginia Moseley) of Washington DC; her half-sister, Jill Cole of Seattle, WA and a sister-in-law, Jeri Loeb of Las Vegas, NV. Mrs. Loeb was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Shirley Nides of Duluth, MN.

The family would like to thank all of the medical professionals who cared for Anne in her battle against cancer, including Drs.Tom Buroker (Medical Oncology and Hematology Associates), John Cameron (Johns Hopkins University), Daniel von Hoff (Scottsdale Healthcare), and Paul Ritch/James Thomas (Medical College of Wisconsin). Special thanks also to the devoted staff at Medical Oncology (especially Pat and Michelle) and the Powell 3 Cancer Unit at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Mrs. Loeb's devotion to her family as well as her compassion, wisdom, and trademark wit will be sorely missed. Her funeral will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, September 30 at Temple B'Nai Jeshurun, Des Moines. In lieu of flowers, donations in Anne's name may be made to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research (www.lustgarten.org), Temple B'Nai Jeshurun or the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center.
