Marion Edwin Bailey, son of Jas. and Lucy Dempsey Bailey was born Dec. 8, 1873 and departed from this life Nov. 3, 1940, at the age of 66 years, 10 months and 26 days, after an illness of three weeks.
He spent his entire life in Jasper County, living within a mile of his birthplace, during the entire 37 years of his married life.
On March 31, 1903 he was united in marriage to Zoreda Myrtle Mullihan. To this union twins were born; one a son remained to brighten the home of his parents but eight short days.
A successful farmer, he was always interested in his family’s welfare, the happiness of his neighbor, ready to help in time of trouble. He was never more content than when surrounded by a group of young people.
He was a kind and devoted husband, a loving father and a devoted grandfather.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Albert Kloppenborg of Newton and two small grandchildren, Blaine and Ruth; also two brothers and six sisters, George, Lucy, Myra, Jess, Mary, Elzaida, Hattie and Laura, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
His parents, one brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at Santiago, with Rev. Harry Robinson in charge.
Music was furnished by Wanda Battles, Mary Pink, E. B. Battles and Simon Payne with Doris Norton accompanist.
Pall bearers were: Dan Phelan, Will Rooney, Alva Helfenstein, Kenneth Battles, Fred Etnier and Lee Boucher.
Mrs. Carr and Mrs. Helfenstein had charge of the flowers.
Burial was at Franklin cemetery.
