Hilda B. Smidt, 104, passed away on January 30 at Senior Suites of Urbandale. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, February 2, at the Dallas Center-Grimes High School Auditorium followed by a funeral service there at 11 a.m. Later a private burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Hilda, the daughter of Jake and Hannah Tapper, was born in Webster City, Iowa on July 2, 1908. For about 60 years she lived on 86th Street in Urbandale and resided in her own home until age 103. She was married to John H. Smidt in 1940 who predeceased her in 1975.

Hilda is survived by two sons, John R. (Donna) of Waukee and James A. (Sharolyn) of Urbandale; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her sister, Ruth Roline of Urbandale; and five nieces and one nephew.

She was predeceased by her parents, an infant sibling and her brothers, Walter and Harold Tapper.
